Our Words and Their Fruit
Isaiah 57:19 “I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace to him who is far off and to him who is near,” Says the LORD, “And I will heal him.” (NKJV).
The Hebrew word create carries with it the intent, to form, to fashion, to make or to produce. The words that come out of our mouth will form, fashion, make or produce the fruit they declare. When we speak the Word of God it will produce the fruit it declares. In this verse it speaks of peace and healing.
In Matthew 15:10-11 it is written, “When He had called the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear and understand: Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.” ( NKJV). Jesus makes three very important statements .
First, Hear. This requires focus on the part of the hearer. It means giving our full attention so we don’t miss anything. It also means don’t presuppose what someone will say.
Second, Understand. Requires a thought process of putting together known facts. It means take time to comprehend what was said. It may take time to process what was heard. There is a word – meditate – or think on a matter to develop a better and clearer understanding. In depth understanding may take a little time.
Third, but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man. Then Jesus went on in verse 18 and said “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.” Notice the words, those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart! There is a saying – think before you speak – if used it may save a lot of grief or embarrassment.
For a Christian hearing and understanding correctly – is vital in our walk with Jesus. Remember Jesus said Hear and Understand! We must endeavor to keep our carnal past or influences in check when trying to understand spiritual principles.
Hebrews 4:2 says, For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. (NKJV).
What is coming out of our mouth? Declaration of healing or the declaration of sickness? Hearing or reading about healing can produce a belief in healing – BUT not faith to Receive it! Reading scripture one time will not be enough. It may take hours or even days of studying healing scriptures to build our faith to RECEIVE!
