The gods of Pleasure!

The Nugget
Whatever pleasures the gods of this world supply us for a season – will bring regret and sorrow for eternity!

The human nature is never satisfied with things the way they are. The eyes of man are always searching for something new. A new thrill or pleasure that will satisfy that inner need. And the devil is always eager to oblige. Look how the devil handled Eve, For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. (Genesis 3:5-6 NKJV). The devil uses the same tactic today. He tells us why we should have or do something – then leaves it up to us to REASON why it is O.K. to do it.

But there is a problem. Have you ever noticed that after you have had that thing for a while it will lose its appeal – and its time for something new. And the cycle begins all over again. Trying to find that one thing or one person that will bring us happiness, at least for a season!

Any pleasures the devil bring us are temporary. They are only distractions to take our eyes off the eternity that lies ahead.

The fact is, true pleasure is released from our spirit when we are looking unto God and His everlasting presence. God created man to be in relationship with Him and our fulfillment can only come from Him. Nothing else can bring our spirit peace!

Psalm 84:11-12 declares, For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, Blessed is the man who trusts in You! (NKJV). Trust is the result of building a relationship with someone. In this case – its building a relationship with Father God which brings an inner peace that can never come from the world – or its gods!
